Barton, Smith and Borders Earn PAC Honors

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – Thomas More College senior goalkeeper Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna), first-year forward Ethan Smith (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and first-year setter Alli Borders (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned weekly honors from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) office on Monday (October 31, 2016).

Barton was named the PAC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper/Defensive Player of the Week.  She helped anchor a Saints' defense that gave up just four shots, including two on-goal, during a 2-0 week. Barton played all 180 minutes for fourth-ranked Thomas More last week, recording two saves and two shutouts. She has strung together 765 scoreless minutes in PAC play this season and currently has 19 career individual PAC shutouts.  This was the third-time in 2016 that Barton earned this weekly honor and sixth-time that Saint has earned the honor.

Smith was named the PAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.  He finished with a pair of goals and an assist last week for 1-0-1 Thomas More. Smith scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another score in last Wednesday's 3-0 win over Bethany College before converting a penalty kick in the 45th minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Washington & Jefferson College.

Borders was named the PAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week.  She helped lead the Saints to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Geneva and Grove City. Borders hit .444 with four kills while pacing the offense with 78 assists (9.75/set) and adding three service aces. On the defensive side of the net, she led the team in total blocks with six and was third in digs with 20 (2.50/set).  This was the third-time this season Borders has been named Rookie of the Week, while she was also named Player of the Week once.

The men's and women's soccer and volleyball teams are in PAC Championship Tournament play this week.  The men's soccer team at Grove City College on Tuesday (November 1) for a 2 p.m. semifinal match, the fourth-ranked women's soccer team hosts Chatham University in a semifinal match on Wednesday (November 2) at 3 p.m. and the volleyball team will face either Geneva College or Grove City College on Friday (November 4) in a semifinal match in Bethany, West Virginia.
