(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – Thomas More College capped a banner 2017-18 athletic season with a 71st place finish in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
The Saints accumulated 279.25 for its place among 329 NCAA Division III schools who competed in NCAA Championship events. There are 450 NCAA Division III member schools. Thomas More recorded the top 2017-18 Directors' Cup finish for a Presidents' Athletic Conference member school as PAC member Grove City College was No. 165.
The 2017-18 academic year saw eight Thomas More teams qualify for NCAA Championships (women's volleyball, women's soccer, men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's tennis, softball and baseball). The women's basketball team advanced to the national semifinals "Final Four" during the winter sports season and Thomas More earned points for senior Christina Cook (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) finishing sixth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Thomas More also had some high individual accomplishments during the past academic year. Cook qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship for the fourth-straight-year in the 400-meter dash and finished sixth overall. Four earned All-American honors with Cook in women's outdoor track & field, senior Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and junior Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) in women's basketball and sophomore Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) in softball.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports: nine women's and nine men's.
