(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team fell to Ohio Northern University, 19-6, today (Saturday, March 18, 2017) on a cold and windy day at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 4-2 and with the win, the Polar Bears improve to 7-4. Thomas More scored one run in the second and five in the third to take a 6-0 lead and then ONU plated two in the fourth four in the fifth, five in the seventh, six in the eighth and two in the ninth for the 19-6 win.
Thomas More had four players with multiple hits in the game. Senior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with two doubles and a run scored, junior second baseman Ben Laumann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-five with a double, a run scored and two runs batted-in, sophomore left fielder Joshua Boeckmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with a double and a RBI and sophomore shortstop Jacob Whitford (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) was two-for-four with a RBI. Sophomore first baseman Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was one-for-four with a home run.
On the mound, senior Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched six innings and had a no decision as he gave up six runs (all earned) on 10 hits, while striking out five. Sophomore Adam Ruwe (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) suffered the loss as he pitched one inning and gave up eight runs (four earned) on four hits.
Thomas More and Ohio Northern close out their three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
