(CINCINNATI, OH) – The Thomas More College men's basketball fell, 56-42, to Mount St. Joseph in the Bridge Shootout today December 30. With the loss, the Saints fall to 7-4 overall and the Mount improves to 7-4 overall.
The game was scoreless in the first five minutes of the first-half until Mount St. Joe got on the board first with a lay-up. The Saints tied the game up from a jumper by Simon Clifford off of an offensive rebound. Thomas More took a five-point lead with eight minutes left in the first half, off another Clifford jump shot. The Lions took back the lead with three minutes to go and went into half-time up four, 21-17.
Coming out of half-time, the Saints scored quickly with a lay-up by Brandon Horne, putting them down two. The Lions went on a run pushing their lead to 13 with 13-minutes left in the game. Garren Bertsch put the Saints within eight with a made three-pointer and a Ralph Stone assist. With seven minutes left in the game, Horne hit another jumper. MSJ went on another small run putting them back up by 13. Horne and Michael Griffin stopped the run with two made jump shots. The Lions went on to win the game, 56-42.
Clifford ended the game with the game-high 17 points. Clifford also put up three rebounds. Horne recorded 10 points, along with six rebounds and two steals. Griffin recorded five points, along with four rebounds and one steal. Stone had the team-high three assists, along with two points, and four rebounds.
The Saints are back in action in the new year on January 3, 2018, hosting Westminster.
