(GROVE CITY, Pa.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team opened PAC competition today against Grove City, defeating the Wolverines 2-1. With the win, the Saints improve to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the PAC. With the loss, Grove City falls to 4-3-3 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
The Saints went up 1-0 mid way through the first half by a goal from Ethan Smith in the 25th minute, about 20 yards out and just barely missed the left post to go into the goal. Just before half-time was called, Colin Dean put the Saints up 2-0 with a header off a corner kick from Smith in the 44th minute.
Grove City attempted to make a comeback, scoring in the 77th minute, making the score 2-1, but the Saints prevailed. The Saints attempted to score three times in the second period while the Wolverines had 16 attempts.
Goal keeper, Jeff Paulin, played all 90 minutes recording 10 saves against 25 shots and only allowing 1 goal. Griffin Garrison led the Saints in shots with three. Smith went 1-1 in his shots on goal, also recording the only assist for the Saints. The Saints totaled nine shots and three shots on goal.
The Saints are back in action on Oct. 3 and continue PAC play when they host Washington & Jefferson. The match is set to start at 2:00 PM.
