(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team defeated Ohio Wesleyan University, 2-1, today (Thursday, October 5, 2017) in a non-conference match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 7-4-1 and with the loss, the Battling Bishops fall to 6-5-0.
Junior midfielder Oliver Owen (Manchester, England/Harrop Fold) gave the Saints a 1-0 lead when he scored on a free-kick at the 11:04 mark. Thomas More increased the lead to 2-0 in the 41st mark when first-year midfielder DJ Sanders (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) scored unassisted.
Ohio Wesleyan scored in the 53rd minute, but it wasn't enough as the Saints won the match 2-1.
Junior goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) earned the win as he played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves.
Ohio Wesleyan had a 13-8 advantage in shots, including 6-4 on-goal, but the Saints won the battle of corner kicks, 4-2.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (October 7) when it hosts Waynesburg University at 3 p.m. at BB&T Field.
