Saints Score Early and Don't Look Back in 2-1 Win Over Geneva

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team scored in the first minute and didn't look back today (Tuesday, October 17, 2017) as it defeated Geneva College, 2-1, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improved to 10-4-1 overall and 5-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 10-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the PAC.

Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 49th-second of the match as sophomore midfielder Griffin Garrison (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) found the back the net off a beautiful cross from junior forward Sam Lewis (Stawell, England/Crispin School).  Garrison would notch his second goal of the match in the ninth minute off an assist from sophomore forward Ethan Smith (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) to increase the lead to 2-0.

Geneva scored a goal in the 90th minute, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More earned the 2-0 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) earned the win in goal as he played all 90 minutes and had nine saves.

Thomas More out-shot Geneva, 18-13, but the Golden Tornadoes had a 10-7 advantage in shots on-goal. 

The Saints return to action on Saturday (October 21) when they travel to Bethany, West Virginia to play Bethan College at 3 p.m.
