(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's tennis team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule today (Saturday, March 18, 2017) with an 8-1 win over Waynesburg University indoors at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More led 3-0 after doubles play as it swept the three matches. The No. 1 tandem of sophomore Derrick Kwok (Sugar Land, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and first-year Michael Kenney (Carmel, Ind./Guerin Catholic) won 8-4, the No. 2 team of first-years Sheldon Preisler (San Diego, Calif./Boone County (Ky.)) and Cameron Shi (China/Scott (Ky.)) won 8-4 and the No. 3 team of first-years Logan Daniels (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and Brian Sears (Vine Grove, Ky./North Hardin) won 8-1.
In singles play, the Saints won five of the six matches to cruise to the 8-1 victory. Shi won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, Preisler won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, Kenney won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, sophomore Christian Gil (Auburn, Ind./Conner) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and first-year Wesley Smith (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Thomas More returns to action on March 24 and 25 when it travels to Marietta, Ohio to compete at the Marietta College Invitational.
