Laura Finke Named PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – Thomas More College junior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) has been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March.

Each month, the SAAC's at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be a varsity team member in their respective sport and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.

A three-year member and current team captain with the Saints' softball program, Finke hit .415 in March during Thomas More's 11-7 start to the season. She added 14 runs, eight RBIs, eight stolen bases and five doubles. She hit safely in 15-of-18 games and logged nine multi-hit outings last month.  

Finke is a two-time member of the PAC's Spring Academic Honor Roll and was a Second Team All-PAC selection in 2015. Following the 2016 season, she was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II Team.

An enthusiastic member of the Thomas More community, Finke is involved in a myriad of activities on campus. She serves as a member of the Student Government Association's (SGA) Executive Board, works with the College's Student Ambassador Program and participates in the James Graham Brown Honors Program. She is also a member of the College's Biology Club, Chemistry Club, History Club and Pro-Life Club.

Finke is a member of Beta Beta Beta, a national biological study honorary, Delta Epsilon Sigma, a national scholastic honorary for student of colleges and universities with a Catholic tradition, and Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honorary. She is also a member of the College's Pre-Health Professionals Society.

She has served as a mentor at John G. Carlisle Elementary School in nearby Covington, Kentucky and has also volunteered with Special Olympics of Northern Kentucky and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati. In addition, she has performed over 200 hours of job shadowing at three different physical therapy centers.

A biology major with a minor in history, Finke carries a 3.952 GPA. After graduating from Thomas More, she plans to attend physical therapy school prior to earning a Ph.D in rehabilitation sciences.
