Saints Take Down the Quakers, 88-57

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College women's basketball team took down Wilmington in the final game of the Julie Costello Classic, 88-57, which was supposed to be played last night but was delayed due to power outages.

With the win, the Saints improve to 4-1 overall giving the Quakers their first loss of the season and falling to 3-1.

Starting the game off, the Saints took an eight-point lead within the first four minutes of the first quarter. Abby Owings and Taylor both hit three-pointers extending the lead to 14. Thomas More went into the second quarter with a 16-point lead, 24-8. In the second quarter, Shelby Rupp dominated the boards and connected on a few layups to give the Saints a 29-10 lead. Madison Temple hit two three-pointers and recorded a steal to send the Saints into half-time with a 20 points lead, 38-18.

Hayden White started the third quarter off strong with two back-to-back layups with assists from Emily Schultz and Nikki Kiernan. Rupp gathered offensive rebounds and put-backs off a Kelly Clapper and Schultz missed shots, putting the Saints up 24, 53-29. In the fourth quarter, Schultz dominated the paint with offensive rebounds and put-backs, and a fast break layup with an assist from Temple. Kaela Saner connected with two deep three-pointers and Kylie Anderson got on the board with a three, giving the Saints the win, 88-57.

The Saints ended the night shooting 50% from the field, 53.3% from beyond the arc, and 63.6% from the foul line. Temple had the game high 21 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, one steal, and one block. Rupp was tied for game high with nine rebounds, along with 15 points, one assist, two blocks, and one steal. Schultz recorded 10 points, two assists, two blocks, one steal and four rebounds. White recorded eight points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Saner went two-for-two from the three-point range. Owings recorded eight points and two rebounds.

Temple was named the Julie Costello Classic Most Valuable Player and Schultz was named All-Tournament.

The Saints are back in action for another PAC matchup hosting Thiel on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. The game will start at 5:30 PM followed by the men's game against Thiel at 7:30 PM.
