(WASHINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College wrestling team opened the 2017-18 season today (Saturday, November 11, 2017) as it finished seventh at the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational in Washington, Pennsylvania.
The Saints had six wrestlers place at the invitational highlighted by a third place finish by sophomore Avery Jones (Amelia, Ohio/Glen Este) at 184 as he was 3-1 with pins in 4:37, 6:53 and 4:09 in the third place match. Sophomore Andrew Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was 1-2 at 174 to place fourth with a pin in 2:15. First-year Kenny Byers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was fourth at 133 as he registered a pin in 1:20. First-year Tanner Yenter (California, Ky./Campbell County) placed fifth at 133 with an 8-5 decision, a 13-5 major decision and a pin in 27-seconds. First-year Brady Wells (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) was sixth at 125 with pins in 40-seconds and 4:30 and a 17-8 major decision. Sophomore James Caniglia (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) was fifth at 197 with a pin in 2:00, 19-4 major decision and a 16-1 major decision.
Three wrestlers competed at 141 as sophomore Parker Buschelman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was 2-2, first-year Andrew Tevis (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) was 1-2 and first-year Gavin Foushee (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) was 0-2, At 133 first-year Jimmy Murphy (Milford, Ohio/Milford) was 0-2, at 165 first-year Gunnar Dawson (Madison, Ohio/Madison) was 0-2, at 174 sophomore Kevin Flaherty (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Henry (Ky.)) was 0-2 and sophomore Joseph Marino (Fort Wright, Ky./Covington Catholic) was 0-2 at 285.
The Saints return to action next Saturday (November 18) when they travel to Angola, Indiana to compete at the Trine University Duals.
