(ANDERSON, Ind.) - The Thomas More College women's soccer team remained undefeated as it defeated Anderson University, 7-1, today (Saturday, September 15, 2012) in a non-conference game in Anderson, Indiana.
With the win, the Saints improve to 6-0 on the season and with the loss, the Ravens fall to 0-6.
The Saints took an early 1-0 lead when freshman defender Abby Osborne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Sam Work (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) at the 1:15 mark. Thomas More increased the lead to 2-0 at the 8:36 mark when senior forward Lauren Wietmarschen (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) scored unassisted. Work extended the Saints' lead to 3-0 when she scored unassisted at the 20:02 mark. The Saints took a 4-0 lead into halftime when sophomore midfielder Emilee Buchanan (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) scored at the 26:54 mark off a cross from junior midfielder Kirstie Reilman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley).
Thomas More increased the lead to 5-0 at the 48:08 when senior midfielder Chrissy Sonderman (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross) scored on a Work assist. Wietmarchen extended the lead to 6-0 when she scored at the 49:00 mark off a cross from Reilman. Buchanan scored unassisted at the 81:04 mark to increase the lead to 7-0. Anderson's Laura Pluckebaum scored as time expired for the final score of 7-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Abbie McBride (Lakeville, Ind./LaVille) played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed one goal, while recording two saves.
Thomas More out-shot Anderson, 24-3 and won the battle of corner kicks, 8-1.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (September 19) when they host Hanover College at 5 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
