(GRANVILLE, Ohio) – The Thomas More College women's track & field team finished ninth today (Saturday, January 21, 2017) at the season-opening Lid Lifter Meet hosted by Denison University inside the Mitchell Center in Granville, Ohio.
The Saints tallied 33 points to finish ninth at the meet. Thomas More had eight Top-10 finishes. Junior Christina Cook (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.53.
Senior Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) had two Top-10 finishes as she was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 32-03.00 and eighth in the long jump with a jump of 14-09.75.
Sophomore Rachel Whitehill (Crestwood, Ky./Oldham County) placed sixth in the high jump with a jump of 4-07.75. Junior Kelsey Etherton (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) was eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.02 and junior Mackenzie Hester (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.30.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Etherton, Hester, Cook and first-year Arian Bonds (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) was third with a time of 4:22.81. Thomas More finished sixth in the distance medley as the team of first-years Dominique Webber (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Dixie Heights), Natalie Kleier (Covington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy), Jessica Riley (Oldham County, Ky./South Oldham) and Shelly Neiser (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) finished with a time of 15:35.96.
Thomas More will return to action on January 28 when it travels to Terre Haute, Indiana to compete at the Engineer Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
