(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Senior middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) tallied a match-high 21 kills tonight (Thursday, October 27, 2016) to defeat Geneva College, 3-2, in a battle of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) co-leaders at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win the Saints improve to 19-9 overall and 15-2 in the PAC as they are tied with Bethany College for the conference lead. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 20-11 overall and 14-3 in the PAC.
Thomas More took a 2-0 lead as it won the first set 25-21 and the second 25-16. Geneva rallied and tied the match at 2-2 as it won the third and fourth sets by the score of 25-18. The Saints dominated the fifth set as it won the set 15-6 and the match 3-2.
Bierbaum hit .463 with her 21 kills to lead the Saints' offensive attack. Senior outside hitter Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finished the match with 18 kills, while first-year outside hitter Madison Krumpelman (Crestview Hills, Ky./Holy Cross) added seven. Junior defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team in service aces with six, while first-year setter Alli Borders (Florence, Ky./Boone County) paced the offense with 44 assists.
On the defensive side of the net, Bronner led the Saints with 24 digs, while Meyer finished with 19 and Borders added 14.
Thomas More closes out the regular season tomorrow as it will host Grove City College at 6 p.m. on Senior Night at the Connor Convocation Center. Prior to the match the Saints will honor their five seniors, who will be playing their final regular season match at the Connor Convocation Center.
